Zirkzee breaks long drought to spark Man U past Palace in comeback win

Joshua Zirkzee scored for the first time in the Premier League in almost a year to spark Manchester United's 2-1 comeback at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Dutch striker has not scored in England's top flight since his brace against Everton on December 1 last year. But he ended his drought with a stunning 54th-minute strike at Selhurst Park to level the game after Jean-Philippe Mateta had given Palace the lead with a first-half penalty.

Mason Mount struck the winner nine minutes later as United ended Palace's 12-game unbeaten home run in the league.

Zirkzee showed individual talent and brought United back into the game when he took the ball into the box, turned and scored from a tight angle. It was only his eighth United goal since joining from Bologna last year and his first this season.

He was in United's starting XI due to injuries to strikers Benjamin Cescó and Matheus Cunha and produced one of the best performances of his time at the club.

Mount scored the decisive goal from a free kick, firing low from the edge of the area after a pass from Bruno Fernandes.

Mateta put Palace ahead with two penalties in the 36th. The France international was found guilty of taking his original spot-kick twice and was ordered to retake it under a clarification of the rules that came after Julián Alvarez's accidental double touch in the penalty shoot-out against Real Madrid last season helped knock Atletico Madrid out of the Champions League.
