Z-A ruined my expectations so badly I can’t predict what the third game will be anymore – Destructoid

I'm not sure this is good.

First time I played Pokemon Legends: ArceusI realized why this game differs from the standard naming conventions of other Pokemon games. The colon after “Pokémon Legends” in the title hinted that more games might be coming in the future, and I was interested to see how Arceus different from the main games.

Legends: Arceus introduced challenging exploration, crafting, and a more natural way of interacting with Pokémon in wide-open areas that I would call almost open world. A picture was painted in my head that this is what Pokemon Legends that would be all.

Perhaps other games in the series will focus on time travel or alternative timelines. As well as PLA takes us back to the ancient times of cataloging and studying Pokémon, I imagined future games exploring different eras and dimensions. So this new series, in my opinion, had its own identity: a game dedicated to a good legend, with complex mechanics and a more mature story than other games in the main line.

PLA playing is much more difficult than Pokemon Sword And Shield. You'll have to battle powerful alpha Pokémon that are stronger than your team, complete lengthy Pokédex tasks, and manage limited resources. You can't waste Pokeballs, and saving items to create others is key. There's not much money to be had, and passing out is a huge problem because you'll have to go back to where you were supposed to pick up your bag and precious items.

It's a much more complex and mature experience. The story is more serious, instead of the usual child savior and stupid evil characters. This is more like a real legend, something closer to The Legend of Zelda how Pokemon. I decided that this is it Pokemon Legends about: Pokemon for experienced players, for new audiences, for a modern way to play video games.

But then he came Pokemon Legends: ZAand right after the announcement I was skeptical. It is set in the same timeline as Pokemon And Yesjust five years later. So Pokemon exists, the Pokédex exists, and all the Poké Ball technology exists as usual. When I finally got to play this game, I realized that its story is essentially similar to Pokemon Scarlet And Violet. Some of the bad guys aren't actually that bad, there are some basic plot problems to solve and once again you're the hero saving the city. The topic has become much more normal than the previous one Legends a game more like Scarlet And Violet how Legends: Arceus.

We have lost the dimension of time in FORand I feel like we could go into the distant future instead. We've lost the story and all the exploration since the entire game takes place in Lumiose City. The city, which should have seemed big, becomes small because you can fly up to almost every building. Distances don't matter as you can travel anywhere quickly.

Opening Pokemon is also boring. IN Legends: ArceusThe Pokémon were in their habitat, where you would expect them to be. You will find Hippopotas and Hippowdon in the mud, in the poisonous Scarlet Swamp, next to other monsters such as the Ghost and the Looms. In ZA, Hippos are found in artificial sandboxes in the Wild Zones inside the city. These wild areas are extremely small and filled with seemingly random Pokémon, which is not at all creative or attractive. We have lost the natural habitat, exploration and atmosphere that Legends: Arceus had.

There are almost no legends. Legends: Arceus There were several legendary Pokemon to meet and research, and creating the first Pokédex was like recording the legends of each Pokemon. IN FORIt feels like you're going through a long, repeating story without knowing the origin or role of the Pokémon in Lumiose City. The story of Zygarde can be told forever, and there is no large-scale legend in it. FOR.

Resources are always available. IN FORI suddenly had 20 hyper potions and I had no idea where they came from. IN Legends: ArceusI would spend time researching to get money for Pokeballs to catch difficult Pokemon instead of constantly feeding them to me through loot from floors or quests.

The fact that we left Legends: Arceusa game with complex mechanics, a well-thought-out plot and an interesting living world, but the story of a genius who is good at fighting Pokemon in one city is disappointing. It killed everything I thought Pokemon Legends there would be a series. I just hope The Pokémon Company returns to something more like Arceus it pushes the lore, exploration, and depth of the franchise forward rather than falling back on something as simple and childish as Pokemon Legends: ZA.
