It is not so difficult to find politically conservative content on YouTube, but the platform can soon be distorted even further to the right. YouTube Parent Alphabet confirmed that it will restore channels that have been banned in recent years to disseminate misinformation about Covid-19 and elections. Alphabet says that he appreciates the freedom of expression and political debates, blaming for his previous decisions of moderation in the Biden administration.
The alphabet made this announcement through Long letter Member of the House of Representatives Jim Jordan. In a letter, the answer to the subpoenas in the Judicial Committee of the House of Representatives, it does not explain that the company adheres to a more calm approach to mitigating political content on YouTube.
To begin with, the alphabet denies that his products and services are biased to specific points of view and that he “appreciates responsibility” provided by the committee. The sowing covers that Google really does not want to prohibit all these accounts, but the officials of the Biden administration simply continued to ask. Now that the political tables have turned, Google hopes to dig himself out of this hole.
According to the ALPHABET events, misinformation, such as telling people to drink a bleach to cure Covid, was not originally against his policy. However, Biden officials repeatedly asked YouTube to take measures. YouTube did and specifically banned intermediate misinformation throughout the site until 2024, a year longer than the repression of the theories of the conspiracy in the elections. Alphabet says that today the YouTube rules allow a “wider content range”.
In an obvious attempt to smooth out things with the Committee of the House of Representatives controlled by the Republicans, YouTube will restore channels prohibited for Covids and disinformation of the elections. This includes outstanding conservatives, such as Dan Bongo, who is currently the deputy director of the FBI, and the head of the fight against the terrorism of the White House Sebastian Gorka.
