Your iPhones The Messages app is a useful app. Yes, you can message people with it, but you can also send people money and spend polls. Another thing it can do is solve complex equations without the Calculator app and convert units without Google.
When did Apple release iOS 18 in 2024, this update updated Messages to be able to perform calculations. Before iOS 18, if you wanted to figure out how to split the bill with your texting group from afar, you had to use the calculator app or Spotlight and then switch back to Messages. You can now perform multi-step calculations in Messages, as well as convert things like currency and temperature, without switching apps.

How to Solve Math Problems in Messages
If you want to solve a math equation in Messages, enter the problem in the text field, add an equal sign (=), and the solution will appear in the smart text field above the keyboard. Tap a solution to add it to your text.
In messages, you can solve simple math equations, such as “2+2=”, by typing them into a text field. The app can also solve equations that use more complex formulas, such as the trigonometric functions of sine, cosine, and tangent. You need to include the equal sign (=) at the end of every equation, no matter what.
How to convert values in messages
Converting values in messages works similarly to solving math problems in the application. Enter a value in the text box with the appropriate value marker, such as F for Fahrenheit or Pounds for pounds, and then enter an equal sign (=), and the predictive text box above the keyboard will show you the conversion.
If you don't specify what to convert to, the predictive text will choose what to convert to. But don't worry, the app won't try to convert pounds to minutes. Messages will show conversions to other similar units of measurement, for example, Fahrenheit will be converted to Celsius, and pounds will be converted to kilograms.
You can choose what to convert to by typing something like “60 hours per minute=” and Messages will display the conversion to 3900 minutes in a smart text box.
