- Leaked code suggests Apple is working on four 'pro' iPad apps
- These include video companion apps and a popular photo editor.
- Details such as pricing, release dates and features remain unknown.
Apple just launched M5 iPad Pro with a powerful new chip and much faster storage. Now, it looks like the company is preparing a slew of pro-grade iPad apps that will help the device's software take advantage of its high-performance hardware.
The idea comes from coding expert Aaron Perris, who claims to have discovered a set of four App Store IDs that point to unreleased apps (via McRumors). All four apps are currently available on Mac, but have not yet arrived on iPad. If they do this, they will be able to bring professional tools to Apple tablets.
The most famous of the four apps is perhaps Pixelmator Pro, a high-end photo editor. The application was bought Apple last yearand while a less feature-rich version of Pixelmator is available on the iPad, Pixelmator Pro is currently a Mac-only app. Requires a one-time purchase of $49.99 / £49.99 / AU$79.99 with no subscription required.
Other rumored offerings are companion apps for Apple. Final Pro version And Logic Pro apps that cover video editing and music creation respectively. These include Compressor, which compresses audio and video for Final Cut Pro; Motion is a tool for creating 2D and 3D titles, transitions and effects in Final Cut Pro; and MainStage, a live performance companion app for Logic Pro.
Welcome Extras
Long before Apple bought it, Pixelmator Pro was considered one of the best apps for mac in the market due to its high quality tools and ease of use. But having it on the Mac, leaving iPad users with a stripped-down version, has always been a bummer when the iPad's hardware is so powerful.
If Aaron Perris is right, it looks like that will change, and I'm excited to see it debut on the iPad. This means tablet users who have long had access to mice, keyboard cases, styluses and more powerful accessories for professional-grade work – never miss out on truly great software again.
Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro are available on iPad in May 2023, but require an ongoing subscription to use. We don't know whether Apple will make these four leaked apps available only as a subscription or just ask for a one-time payment, and that could be an important factor in deciding whether to buy them.
It's also unclear when these apps will launch or whether they will have any features different from their Mac counterparts. But despite the relative lack of information, just the idea that they'll be coming to the iPad is good news. Now we'll just have to stay tuned for further updates to know exactly what we'll get when they arrive.
