Having worked in the justice system for almost 40 years as a law enforcement officer, I hope that the use of this as a political weapon never happens again in this country.
The trumped-up charges against Tamara Leach and Chris Barber never justified the extreme hardships they endured, while the same crime-friendly Trudeau government pampered serious criminals by quickly returning them to society.
The lich was even placed in leg shackles to be released on bail, something usually reserved for only the most dangerous offenders. To further punish Barber, attempts were also made to confiscate his truck, known as Big Red.

The justice system became a political tool, using the treatment of Leach and Barber as a direct warning to others.
There has been scant coverage of the fact that in a January 2024 ruling, Federal Court Judge Richard Mosley said it was unreasonable for the Trudeau government to use the Emergency Management Act to crack down on a convoy of truckers. To punish those who opposed his policies, Trudeau flagrantly trampled on the guaranteed right to peaceful protest enshrined in his father's Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Should NEVER have charged
I believe Tamara Leach and Chris Barber should not have been charged in the first place. Many criminals facing more serious charges have faced little to no consequences. From the very beginning, they were only charged because Justin Trudeau didn't like them.

CIVIL DISCOURSE
Re: AGAR: The need for discussions without any hatred, online, September 22.
Terrific column by Jerry Agar. People who conclude that a belief is wrong because of the person who holds it are ignorant.
Civil discourse is the fundamental basis of democracy. The parliamentary process itself involves questioning the ruling party by the opposition and allows the government to defend its policies for citizens to judge. Yelling at a specific party because they are your political opponents will not achieve anything. It is the discussion of ideas, debate, and dialogue that contribute to the development of society.
A wise boss of mine once said, “It’s not who is right, but what is right.” Otherwise we are no better than barbarians.
