In an April column, Lorrie Goldstein noted that the Liberal government was no closer to its emissions reduction targets. He cited a report from federal Environmental Commissioner Jerry DeMarco. It found that achieving the minimum target of 40 per cent by 2030 would require measures that would harm Canada's economy.
Now we can simply achieve goals that were previously considered unattainable, with the help of an unexpected source. This source? Donald J. Trump!
Due to the incompetence and failure of Prime Minister Mark Carney to reach any trade agreement with Trump, and the continued imposition of US tariffs on key manufacturing and resource sectors, our economy is truly paralyzed, if not completely destroyed. The positive result is lower production, lower sales, fewer orders, and therefore lower shipping requirements and lower transportation emissions. All this leads to a reduction in overall emissions.

Thank you, Donald, for the good and future of the climate, environment and planet.
It's just a shame that Carney will be able to shout about how liberals have finally achieved their emissions reduction goals through Trump's back door. Or perhaps it's a key element of his elbows-down policy.

DEADLINE STILL APPLY
Re: EDITOR: And you, Chris? Politics and Party Betrayal, editorial, online, 5 November.
The term “useful idiot”, referring to a stupid person whose views can be exploited for political purposes, was first published in the British periodical The Saturday Review of Politics, Literature, Science and Art in 1864.
Unfortunately, Nova Scotia MP Chris d'Entremont proved that nothing has changed in 2025.

CLIMAT JET KIT
It's that time of year again when tens of thousands of people board private and commercial jets to attend a climate conference in luxury. There they will discuss ways and means to prevent others from burning jet and other fossil fuels.
They will also discuss technologies such as Teams and Zoom that allow for remote meetings. Meeting participants will not use these technologies; they are for serfs and peons. Their work is too important to serve as an example.
