CANADA'S NEXT STEPS

According to some experts, it seemed like some sort of deal was imminent, but Donald Trump apparently wasn't happy with its effectiveness. As he has been known to do in other negotiations, he backed out at the last minute. The Ronald Reagan video that Doug Ford used in an ad campaign in Ontario was simply a convenient excuse for Trump's childish suspension of negotiations.

However, despite Reagan's one-time tariffs on Japan at the time (and for good reason), excerpts from Reagan's speech accurately reflected his views on free trade. They undoubtedly offended Trump and MAGA supporters.

Moreover, Donald's claim that advertising will influence the upcoming US Supreme Court decision on his tariff regime is absolutely ludicrous.

Now His Discontent says he will “leave the existing agreement in place” until he is ready to return to the negotiating table. When (if) this happens, Canada should (a) not just return to Donald's schedule, but return to a date of our choice; and (b) not return unless the automotive and softwood lumber sectors are included in further discussions.

If Mark Carney is not going to maintain or impose retaliatory tariffs or other sanctions, he should at least stand up and show some firmness by asserting some control over the timing and agenda.

Canada shouldn't constantly be a sycophant, rushing to Washington at Trump's behest and always asking “how high” every time Trump says “jump.”

CHOOSE CANADA? NOT HAPPENING

Canada should save taxpayers money and stop fighting for Alberta's independence with the “Choose Canada” TV ad campaign.

The Liberals missed the opportunity to see the thousands of Albertans who recently appeared before the Alberta Legislature with full and enthusiastic support for Alberta independence. This TV ad campaign by the feds has as much chance of success as Doug Ford's TV ad in Ontario to get Donald Trump to cancel tariffs on Canada.

Albertans will crawl on broken glass to leave anti-oil Canada for independence in 2026.
