This October marks the 10th anniversary of the vacation of 24 Sussex Drive, home of Canada's prime ministers from 1951 to 2015. Until recently, it was inhabited only by the wayward rodents of Rockcliffe Park.

Since the fall of 2015, our prime ministers have made Rideau Cottage their official residence without making a word of complaint public.
Is it too much to ask Prime Minister Mark Carney to make a long overdue decision on what to do with 24 Sussex? The National Capital Commission, its owner, has been waiting the past three years to decide whether to spend roughly $40 million to renovate it.
Isn't the solution obvious? Before the November Budget, when billions will be spent on all sorts of programs and projects, “hack Sussex with an axe,” tear it down and save us millions.

LIBERALS WON'T BE TOUGH ON CRIME
Re: Can cereal become hard?; Liberals announce Canada's anti-crime legislation, Brian Lilley column, October 17.
Liberals have spent the last decade taking guns away from law-abiding citizens rather than gangsters, allowing dangerous criminals quickly back on the streets to re-offend and appointing social justice warriors to the Federal Court, but now Mark Carney's Liberals want to reinvent themselves.
Changing a liberal justice system based on revolving doors requires serious changes at scale, not just changes around the edges. These tough-on-crime New Liberals recently voted against a proposal by the official opposition to keep dangerous repeat offenders in prison.

Will this newfound liberal tough-on-crime stance lead to even longer suspended sentences and more house arrests? Please give me a break; Liberals being tough on crime is an oxymoron.

NO CASH WITHDRAWAL
Mark Carney cannot help businesses and others by providing cash support when people have lost their jobs and are not paying taxes. Add to this, even if they refund some of the taxes, the cost of the procedure makes the money worthless, so the well runs dry.
