Yankees’ Cody Bellinger plans for free agency, says source

As expected, New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger plans to opt out of his contract and become a free agent next month, a source told ESPN.

Bellinger, 30, has a player option worth $25 million for next season. After a strong season in his first year in pinstripes, he appears to be receiving widespread interest in free agency – which should lead to a lucrative multi-year contract.

The Yankees acquired Bellinger. from Chicago Cubs in December last year. For the Cubs, he was a loss of salary just days after they acquired Kyle Tucker.
