Morgan Geyser, one of two girls who tried to kill a classmate in 2014 to please the fictional horror character Slender Man, was free Sunday night after cut the bracelet off my ankle and disappeared from her halfway house in Wisconsin.
“Officers are searching for a woman who cut off her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet and left her home Saturday evening,” the Madison Police Department said in a statement accompanied by a surveillance photo. They said she was last seen around 8pm on Saturday with an “adult acquaintance”, adding: “her whereabouts are unknown as of Sunday morning.”
Geyser, now 22, was 12 at the time of the attack, as were accomplice Anissa Weier and victim Payton Leitner. These two were charged as an adult for luring Leitner to a park in suburban Waukesha, Wisconsin, after spending the night. Weier egged Geyser on while she struck Leitner 19 timesmissing the main artery by a millimeter. They told police they did it to please Slender manwhich they thought was real.
Leitner survived by crawling to a bike path after her so-called friends left her to bleed to death in the woods. A passerby found her and called for help.
Both girls took plea bargains and were admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Weyer was released several years later. Earlier this year Geyser was given parole after experts testified that she has made significant progress in treating her mental illness.
Geyser's lawyer, Tony Cotton, addressed his client via Instagram on Sunday evening.
“It is in her best interest that she give up immediately and not continue this course of action,” Cotton said. “We don't know any facts about what happened or who might have helped her.”
