As we said, the bands are back and indie rock is back in fashion, so it makes sense that Wolf Parade get theirs “Kate Bush in Stranger Things“moment. And all this thanks to the hockey drama Heated rivalryand Wolf Parade Spencer Krug has now spoken about Crave the show's outstanding use of his song “I'll Believe Anything”.
Outstanding Track of 2005 Apology to Queen Mary features prominently in the show's fifth episode, titled “I'll Believe Anything,” and includes the track in the climactic scene in which (spoiler alert!) a hockey player makes out on the ice with his boyfriend.
“To be honest, another person wrote the song because it was so long ago,” Krug said. Globe and mail. “I don't feel like I'm 25 anymore. We all read work that someone else has done. I've always had a philosophy that once you record a song and put it out into the world, you let it do its thing. It's interesting to watch. I'm not going to try to control anything. We almost always play it live. I'm curious how that changes the perception of the song. It's all very surprising.”
The circle had previously been in contact with Heated rivalry series creator/director Jacob Tierneyand even talked about creating original music for one of his projects. “The idea of a sexy gay hockey show sounds fun,” Krug said. “We had no idea the song would be what it is or that it would have a main character. [Episode 5.]”
The song “I'll Believe in Anything” is reported to have grown in popularity by 3,000% on Spotify streams and is spreading like wildfire on TikTok.
Earlier this year, long before that Heated rivalry, Krug spoke to Exclaim! about the songsaying, “I have other works that I prefer, but I know that at the end of the day, this song will probably be heard more than any other song I've written. And I won't say that's all I'll be remembered for, but it's the one that will reach most ears, and that's okay. I'm grateful. I'm grateful for everything. I am grateful even for one pair of ears, for any song. But part of me says, “Hey, you know, there's something else…”
