Witchfire Released The Reckoning Content Update as It Sold Over 500,000 Copies

Take Retribution in Witchfire

Witch fireThe single-player dark fantasy RPG shooter from The Astronauts has received a major new update called The Reckoning. In addition to this release, the studio confirmed that the game has surpassed 500,000 sales since entering Early Access, marking a significant milestone for the project.

The Reckoning greatly expands Witchfire's combat system beyond simple gunplay. For the first time, players have access to melee weapons, including the morning star, katar, and shield. These additions replace the basic fist with powerful alternatives, each offering different abilities and tactical value. New melee tools designed to work naturally with firearms and magic allow Witch Hunters to engage enemies at close range without disrupting the rhythm of combat.

Ranged combat capabilities have also expanded with the introduction of three new firearms, including the long-requested Triple-Barrel Shotgun. One prominent weapon, the Tribunal, supports an aggressive approach. Dash or slide charges upcoming shots, and when fully charged, overkills cause a devastating shock blast. Combined with melee attacks and spells, combat now feels smoother, more fluid, and more lethal.

A new shooting range has been added to help players experiment with these tools. Featuring an interactive bestiary, it allows players to test builds and gear against enemies they've already defeated before heading back out on dangerous expeditions.

Upgrading also improves quality of life. Witchfire is now fully verified on Steam Deck and includes new accessibility options such as adjustable font size and an arachnophobia filter. A spider-themed scourge joins the list of cursed events, the extraction mechanic has been reworked, and two new gameplay modifiers challenge experienced players. Full details are available in the official patch notes.
