Former NFL center Jason Kelce is defending himself against accusations of anti-Canadian sentiment by relying on his CFL ties.

The 38-year-old former Super Bowl champion came under fire this week after discussing the World Series on his popular channel. New Heights podcast. Jason confronted his brother Travis when he said the show was crazy fun, saying, “You're telling me I have to worry about a Canadian baseball team and a team that just spends more money than anyone else? Who the hell cares?”

Some, including Sportsnet reporter Hazel May, interpreted the comments as a shot at true north, strong and free. However, Kelsey took it upon himself X to defend himself by claiming that the entire passage had been misinterpreted.

“Guys, I love Canada, I was deceived by our social team, which could not show the whole story. How could I not love poutine, maple syrup and beavers!!” he wrote. “I actually rooted for the Blue Jays in the World Series, which I didn't care about. Seriously, Canada is the best, I was just talking crap about how I personally don't care that the team that spent the most money and built a super team won the World Series. That's it. I'm a famous Canadian defenseman and a hockey fan.”

When asked about Manitoba's capital, the longtime Philadelphia Eagle player returned to the comments to once again defend his feelings about Canada.

“Winnipeg has a great QB for their CFL team. Handsome, smart, funny and talented.” he added.

Kelsey is known to close friends with Blue Bombers defenseman Zach Collaroswith whom he was roommates when they played together at the University of Cincinnati. The six-time All-Pro attended at least one CFL game in person to support his friend back in 2019, and occasionally discussed Canadian football on his podcasteven advocating for the NFL to adopt a CFL-style proposal.

Co-host Travis tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and the fiancée of superstar musician Taylor Swift, donned Bomber gear on a podcast last year after receiving a care package from Collaros.. Jason, as usual, lost his, but found it in time for the 111th Gray Cup, posting a photo of himself and his kids dressed in blue and gold before kickoff.

This sincere appreciation for three-down football should heal some of the wounds left by Blue Jays fans still reeling from last Saturday's devastating Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. More than 18.5 million Canadians watched at least part of the game, with an average audience of 10.9 million. It is the second most watched televised event in the country's history after the 2010 Winter Olympics.
