Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign big-bodied receiver Jahmal Banks, four others

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed five American players, including wide receivers. Jahmal Banks And Gerald Monroe, offensive linemen Tyler Elsbury and Joe Mohr, and defensive end Cam McCutcheon.

Banks played collegiately at the University of Nebraska in 2024, where he had 44 catches for 587 yards and three touchdowns. The six-foot-four, 220-pound Washington native previously played at Wake Forest University, where he had 107 receptions for 1,404 yards and 13 scores. He was named honorable mention All-ACC in 2022.

The 24-year-old played briefly for the Baltimore Ravens after going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft. He made one catch for six yards in the preseason but did not make the team's final roster.

Monroe caught 249 catches for 4,297 yards and 58 touchdowns in four collegiate seasons at Graceland University, an NAIA program located in Lamoni, Iowa. The five-foot-ten, 185-pound Glenn Heights, Texas native also threw for one touchdown and returned 14 kicks for 180 yards. The 23-year-old was named a 2024 AFCA NAIA First-Team All-American, First-Team All-Heart North and the 2024 Heart North Offensive Player of the Year.

Elsbury spent part of the 2025 season on Winnipeg's practice squad, although he did not play in the CFL regular season. The six-foot-six, 333-pound native of Byron, Illinois, played collegiately at the University of Iowa, where he played seven games as a defensive back. He also attended rookie minicamp with the Seattle Seahawks in 2025.

Mohr finished his collegiate career at the University of Arkansas in 2024, where he took snaps at center and right tackle but never made it into the starting lineup. The six-foot-five, 311-pound blocker previously played at Syracuse University and the University of Richmond. He started 36 games for the Spiders, primarily at right tackle, and was named third team All-CAA in 2022.

McCutcheon spent the last three years in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers, although he never saw any regular-season action with those teams. The six-foot-one, 204-pound Seneca native finished his collegiate career at Western Carolina, where he recorded 79 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, eight pass knockdowns, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery over 22 games.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers finished fourth in the West Division standings in 2025 with a 10–8 record, qualifying for the playoffs as a crossover team before losing in the East semi-finals to the Montreal Alouettes. Zach Collaros threw for 3,048 yards, 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 13 regular-season games while going 6-7 as a starter.

The Blue Bombers ranked fifth in net offense, third in net defense and eighth with a minus-eleven turnover margin. The club's leading rusher was Brady Oliveira with 1,163 yards, the leading receiver was Nick Demski with 1,001 yards, and the leading tackler was Tony Jones with 104 tackles. Winnipeg ranked first in attendance with an average attendance of 32,343, up 3.7 per cent from the previous year.
