MIAMI – Andrew Wiggins dunked in overtime after hearing the buzzer and Miami Heat win Cleveland Cavaliers 140-138 in a wild Monday night game.
Norman Powell scored 33 points and Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 22 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists off the bench for the Heat. Wiggins scored 23 for Miami, which got 14 points and 20 rebounds from Kel'El Ware.
Donovan Mitchell had 28 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists for Cleveland, including a 3-pointer that tied the game with 0.4 seconds left in overtime — before Wiggins caught Nikola Jovic's pass and made the winning pass.
Cleveland got 23 points from De'Andre Hunter and 21 points and 10 rebounds from Evan Mobley.
The Heat are 5-0 at home for the third time in franchise history, dating back to the 2012-13 season (when Miami won the NBA title) and the 2019-20 season (when Miami lost in the NBA Finals).
It was the first meeting between the teams since Game 4 of last season's Eastern Conference first-round series, when Cleveland won 138-83 to end the four-game series with a 122-point lead. It was the most lopsided postseason series in terms of margin in NBA history.
“It was very humbling,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “It was awkward.”
Miami was missing Bam Adebayo (toe) and Tyler Herro (heel) with injuries, and the Cavaliers lost Darius Garland in the third quarter with a potential recurrence of a toe injury he's been battling for months. Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson was also ejected late in the third quarter.
Cleveland made 120 shots, including 65 3-pointers, more than any team since 2019. The Cavs made 21 3-pointers, their NBA record, the 98th straight regular-season game with at least 10 shots from deep.
The teams will meet again Wednesday in Miami.
