Wife of man accused of murdering 4 children in NC died of natural causes, autopsy reveals

The ABC11 I-Team has revealed new details about the late wife of Wellington Dickens III, the Johnston County man accused of killing his four children.

An autopsy by the chief medical examiner found that Stephanie Jones, 37, died April 21, 2024, from complications from a miscarriage caused by a rare disease.

An autopsy revealed that Jones had been bleeding heavily for more than three hours before going to bed. The next morning, around 9 a.m., she collapsed and Dickens found her without a pulse.

Dickens, 38, told investigators he tried CPR but was unable to revive her. He then placed his wife's body back in bed and lay with her to mourn.

Then he went to Zebulun for food. When he returned, he ate with his children before telling them that their mother had died.

Dickens then allowed the children to visit her body before calling 911.

No charges were filed in this case. However, Dickens now faces four counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his children.

Dickens On October 27, he called 911 and told the operator that he had killed his childrenThe sheriff's office said.

When deputies arrived, they found remains of four children in the trunk of a car in the garage of the Zebulon home.

The cause of their death has not yet been established.
