If you were busy playing Rainbow Six Siege X and saw an empty trading floor, then you have no reason to worry.
At the time of writing, the Marketplace will be reopened and this was not a bug or network issue. Instead, it was part of a deliberate move on Ubisoft's part. The decision was made after a large-scale server hack, which led to unforeseen consequences.
Rainbow Six Siege X server hack explained
The story begins earlier, on December 27, when many players noticed messages that resembled waves of bans. However, the messages were a little different from their usual form, and the players soon learned what really happened.
Returning to the main menu, many players reported that they had two billion loans in your accounts. Although many players believed that this amount must be a mistake, they actually had two billion credits in their accounts. They also reportedly gained access to the ultra-exclusive DEV skin and other big-ticket items like Glaciers.
Credits obtained by players through illegal methods are premium currency. You can use it on the Marketplace to purchase various cosmetics. Some players also reportedly did this to buy as many cosmetics as possible.
Thus, the trading floor was completely closed to prevent players from driving down prices. An abundance of premium currency would lead to unfair price changes. At the time of writing, the game servers are also not working for the same reason.
Although Ubisoft has not officially acknowledged the violation, server maintenance page still lists unplanned outages for the game on all platforms. Ubisoft has since added an order of events.
- There will be no restrictions.
- Roll back all transactions that were made with the fraudulent currency.
- Players will keep all unlocks that were made legally.
