If you've been paying attention to the world of film and television in the last few months, you've seen Macaulay Culkin come up in a few things. He had acting roles in Zootopia 2 and second season Fall out.
This is notable because Macaulay isn't working as consistently in Hollywood these days. He appeared on television from time to time, but his lastZootopia 2 film roles were in the 2019 comedy. Country of change.
During a recent appearance at SmartLess In the podcast, Macaulay described the recent surge in work as proof that he's “technically retired” – and explained why that is.
“I retire, and then if I find something I like, I retire, do it, and then retire right away,” he explained. “Every performance is my last.”
Macaulay then spoke about the reasons for his ten-year hiatus from acting, which began after the 1994 film. Richie Rich. “I left for almost ten years,” he said. “Just went to high school, fell in love, got drunk for the first time and stuff like that. I was in a position where I could just stick my thumb up my ass and play video games all day. You know? I could do whatever I wanted, really.”
“I was ecstatic. I thought, 'I hope you all made your money, because there's no more coming from me,'” he said. “I've made a name for myself. I left my mark. I made a fortune. The only reason I do this now is because I enjoy doing it. Payment, pleasure, prestige – this is the only reason to give a concert.”
Looks like his head is in the right place, to be honest. You can listen to the entire interview Here.
