I'm hooked on IS after watching the pilot just a few months ago. Even though we're currently in the middle of its second season, I've seen enough to declare this series worth watching for anyone who loves TV dramas.
Here are 11 reasons why you should start watching. IS today, tonight or RIGHT NOW:
With the arrival of the Primetime Emmy Award-winning HBO show. PittI decided to give IS attempt. It didn't disappoint. Executive Producer John Wells Pitt helped produce IS. AND Pitt/ER connections lead to another obvious reason why you should watch…
As medical student John Carter said, Noah Wyle brings spirit and depth to his character. If you love him like a grizzled veteran PittCarter offers a glimpse into who the young Doctor Robbie might have been.
3.
Vision by Michael Crichton
Crichton was not only the creator and executive producer ISbut his 1974 script called “EW” (Emergency Department) inspired the entire series. “REB” is based on Crichton's experiences as a medical student (which is why the show feels so authentic). Other great books of his that you have probably heard of include: Congo, Chronologyand a little-known book called Jurassic Park (I can’t laugh).
4.
We love late night soap opera
This may seem minor or negative to some, but the show does have soap opera moments. Whenever we leave County General, we get a closer look into the personal lives of these healthcare workers. There's plenty of romantic drama as well as life-threatening events that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
5.
IS Legit funny
It may be hard to believe, but the comedy is really here. The show has many heartbreaking moments, and the comedy comes in the moments when we can breathe. For EMTs, this can range from sarcastic remarks to a full-on circus.
6.
Real talk
IS will really put you in the patient's (and doctor's) shoes and make you ask: What would I do? Current storylines include AIDS, crack, racism, violence, sexism, homophobia, addiction, transphobia, suicide, ageism and many other issues that are addressed in each episode.
7.
You have 15 seasons to enjoy
Lifespan matters when you start watching a series, and IS the audience seemed satisfied with its conclusion. Obviously there are ups and downs in the ratings, as with any show that lasts that long… but so far I'm loving it!
8.
IS There are characters that interest you
All the main characters are extremely likable and that makes the storylines that much better. Each person feels different… and real. The dynamics between the characters are also unique, allowing for intra-corporate friendships and rivalries to emerge. It really feels like a real work environment that even non-medical drama fans can relate to.
9.
Medical realism and overwhelming emotions
The series' medical realism is one of the main reasons why it received such high praise. Although it's not as clear as Pitt these days, IS was definitely terrible for 90s prime time television.
10.
IS Works in health care ethics
Not everything is cut and dry. The same goes for medicine. Each episode presents a new dilemma that forces the characters to question their morality and the healthcare system. Decisions need to be made… and quickly. The show does a phenomenal job of showing the toll it takes on healthcare workers and how it affects patients.
11.
And finally: IS Medical Drama – Royal Family
Listen, you should watch IS if you like any of these shows except Pitt: Gray's Anatomy, Chicago Med, Resident, House, The Good Doctor…hell, even Scrubs. Without a doubt IS walked AND ran so other shows could join the race. This set the tone.
