White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt announced Friday that she and her husband are expecting their second child, due in May.
“The best Christmas gift we could ever ask for is having a baby girl in May 2026,” Leavitt, 28, wrote in an Instagram caption on Friday, along with photos of herself and an ultrasound image next to a Christmas tree.
“My husband and I are thrilled to be growing our family and look forward to watching our son become a big brother. My heart is filled with gratitude to God for the blessing of motherhood, which I truly believe is the closest thing to heaven on Earth,” the spokeswoman added.
Leavitt's first child with her husband Nicholas Riccio was born in July 2024months before Donald Trump was re-elected president in November. The child was named after his father, but was nicknamed Niko.
Leavitt and her 60-year-old husband met in 2022 when she ran unsuccessfully for Congress in New Hampshire.
“He's incredible. He's my biggest supporter. He's my best friend. He's my rock,” Leavitt told Megyn Kelly. on her podcast earlier this year.
“He fully supports me in achieving success in my career, and, of course, he is the father of my child,” Leavitt added on the February episode of the podcast. “And he's the best dad I could ever ask for, and he's so supportive, especially during this very chaotic time in my life.”
The current White House press secretary served as national press secretary for Trump's 2024 campaign. Just a few days after his election, President named Leavitt as White House press secretary. She has held the position since Trump's inauguration in January.
In her post Friday, Leavitt thanked Trump administration officials for supporting her as a parent, writing, “I am also extremely grateful to President Trump and our Chief of Staff Susie Wiles for their support and for creating a pro-family environment in the White House. 2026 is going to be a great year and I'm so excited to be a girl mom!”
A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to questions from NBC News about whether Leavitt plans to take maternity leave after the birth of her daughter or whether anyone will replace her if she does.
