How are we going to pluralize Road House? Roadhouses? Road houses? Road House like the Chief Surgeon? This is important because there appear to be two inevitable sequels to the novel. Jake Gyllenhaal reboot Road House, and they fight. How lucky.
Legal battles between Amazon, remake director Doug Liman and the original company Road House screenwriter R. Lance Hill is as juicy as any sequel could hope for. Deadline just reported that Liman and Hill have teamed up against Amazon MGM to carry out Road House a sequel exactly the opposite of what Amazon (and Gyllenhaal) made. Amazon painting announced in Aprilwith Guy Ritchie replacing Lyman. Liman was then replaced by Ilya Naishuler. Now Liman and Hill took advantage of some kind of copyright law to announce their film. Roadhouse: Dylan. Hill claims he wrote the original Road House to spec, and the rights to his script reverted to him in 2023. Amazon MGM says Hill wrote the script as a “work for hire,” which leaves the script in the hands of producers.
Liman joins forces with Hill because he feels he too has been duped by Amazon. He says his contract stated that Road House will receive a theatrical release only to be moved to streaming. So which one Road House 2 the only real sequel? It's up to the courts to decide.
