Getty Images“Hamnet,” “The Sinners,” “Marty Supreme” and “Wicked: For Good” are just some of the films expected to be in contention for the Golden Globes when nominations are announced later.
The Globes are the first major Hollywood awards show to reveal their shortlists, effectively kicking off the awards season that runs through the Oscars in March.
Timothée Chalamet, Emma Stone, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jessie Buckley are some of the big names that could be in contention in the acting categories.
Nominations will be announced actors Marlon Wayans and Sky P. Marshall from 13:15 GMT on Monday.
In addition to recognizing film and television, a new category for best podcasts was introduced this year.
American comedian Nikki Glaser will return to host this year's Golden Globe Awards, which will take place in Los Angeles on January 11.
What films are participating in the competition?

And several films vying for the non-English language award, e.g. Secret agent, There's no other choice, Sentimental value, Voice of Hind Rajab, Cry And It was just an accidentcould easily appear in other categories as well.
Which actors can be nominated?
Getty ImagesThere are many more acting nominations available at the Globes (36) than at the Oscars (20) because they divide many of their film categories into drama, musical or comedy.
This allows them to hand out more trophies on the night and means they can star-studded their ceremony – and there are plenty of A-listers on the docket this year.
Leonardo DiCaprio (“One Battle After Another”) may be back in the awards race for his role as a former revolutionary, while Timothee Chalamet (Marty Supreme) may be nominated for his role as table tennis player Marty Mauser.
Wicked: For Good Cynthia Erivo And Ariana Grande could repeat the nominations received for the first film, while Sydney Sweeney (Christie) was praised for its portrayal of boxer Christie Martin's rise to fame in the 1990s and her husband's later attempt to kill her.

Irish actress Jessie Buckley is a contender for the title of best actress for her role in the film “Hamnet.” Paul Mescal can also be recognized for, while Emma Stone And Jesse Plemons could be back in the awards race for Bugonia.
Other stars involved in the controversy include Julia Roberts (After the hunt) Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon) Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) Renata Reinsve (Sentimental value) and Jeremy Allen White (Springsteen: Deliver Me Out of Nowhere).
Jennifer Lawrence (Die my love) Kate Hudson (Son Song Blue), Wagner Moura (Secret Agent) and Chase Infinity And Sean Penn (both “One Battle After Another”) will also likely be recognized.
What about TV categories?

This year, all eyes will be on the limited series category to see whether the British drama will become Adolescence will dominate the same way it did at September's Emmy Awards.
Stefan Graham and Owen Cooper star in Jack Thorne's drama about a teenage boy accused of stabbing a classmate, which has become one of the most talked-about series of the year.

How significant are the Globes?

It is a less formal ceremony than the Oscars. At the Globes, stars usually have more fun giving acceptance speeches and mingling over a few drinks and food.
But make no mistake: The Globes are a key stop on the road to the Oscars, with winners having the opportunity to be seen by a much larger number of Academy voters as the event is televised on a major US broadcast network.
Last year's Golden Globe wins gave a major boost to actors like Fernanda Torres and Sebastian Stan, as well as films like I'm Still Here and Flow, which both went on to win Oscars.
Another thing the Globes are famous for is roasting celebrities: the opening monologues of previous hosts like Ricky Gervais, Seth Meyers, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were often among the most viral moments of the night.
Globes magazine comes under fire after the 2021 corruption scandal and struggled to find good hosts for several years, but was put back on firmer footing last year when American comedian Nikki Glaser delivered a blistering monologue.
She poked fun at stars such as Zendaya, Ben Affleck, Selena Gomez, Eddie Redmayne and Glen Powell, and later introduced a musical mash-up of Wicked and Conclave. called Papa-ular. She was immediately offered to return as a presenter in 2026.
