When the Cowboys have the ball
Dallas finishes Week 10 having combined two of its weakest offenses of the season against the Broncos and Dallas. Cardinals before the break. The Cowboys had one of the best offenses in history. NFL ahead of these two competitions and they have a good chance of getting back on track here in Vegas. The Raiders rank 24th in opponent success rate against both the run and pass, according to TruMedia, which should allow the Cowboys to choose their own adventure when they want to attack this defense.
The Cowboys now have a fully healthy offensive line after dealing with multiple injury issues earlier in the year. Every lineman except right tackle Terence Steele (weakest link in the chain) missed at least one game before the bye, with right back Tyler Booker missing three and center Cooper Beebe missed six before returning to Arizona for that loss. Now at full strength, this group should be able to generate the same push and provide the same defense as it did early in the season before the injuries started piling up.
Dallas in particular has a pretty strong edge in the passing game. The Raiders overhauled their secondary this offseason, and not necessarily to their advantage. Vegas checks, ranked 23rd in the EPA, are allowed for every return through TruMedia, allowing opponents to consistently profit through the air.
The cowboys will line up CeeDee Lamb scattered all over the field, but he's most effective in the slot, which is where the Raiders rely heavily. Jeremy Chinn And Darnay Holmes make a covering. Each has a passer rating of over 100 in their slots, according to Pro Football Focus, which is obviously a recipe for disaster against Lamb.
When it comes to coverage, things don't get much simpler. George Pickenswho acts as a true “X” receiver and wins all kinds of comebacks, out-breaks and especially deep passes down the field. There may never have been a better deep receiver in the world. NFL this season and Eric Stokes, Darien Porter, Kyu Blue Kelly and the guards above will have their hands full when it comes to containing him on these plays.
When it comes to shutting down the Dallas passing game, the Raiders' best hope is to put significant pressure on the team. Dak Prescottwho has absolutely prepared the defense this season when he has time to shoot. The Raiders have one of the best pressure players in the world. Max Crosbybut their pressure rate is still below average, according to Tru Media, creating a sack, punt or rush on only 32.9% of their opponent's dropbacks. Without Crosby dominating the game, it's hard to see how they can consistently get to Prescott.
The Raiders have actually done a pretty good job against the run this year, and they've been particularly good at limiting yards before contact (0.98 per attempt, via TruMedia). They have also largely limited explosive runs. However, the Dallas Run game is mostly about picking off consecutive clips of five yards or so per carry rather than making big gains, and Javonte Williams you will have to be sure to fall forward at every opportunity to limit negative consequences and create good situations for falling and distance.

When the Raiders have the ball
The Raiders offense completely collapsed last week against the Broncos and looked unsustainable for most of the game. Geno Smith was under constant pressure and Ashton Ginty there was very little room to run. Smith completed a sluggish 16 of 26 passes for 143 yards and an interception, while taking six sacks and forcing three more scrambles (while only gaining seven yards), while Jeanty gained just over 3 yards per carry on his 19 rushing attempts. This was a disgusting and unacceptable performance.
Luckily for Las Vegas, the Cowboys' defense is much different than the Broncos'. Dallas has been one of the worst units in the NFL all season, allowing opponents to run and/or pass almost at will. According to TruMedia, the Cowboys rank 31st in rushing efficiency and 28th in passing efficiency, allowing 4.8 yards per carry and a whopping 8.2 yards per pass attempt.
Of course, the Dallas defense that will take the field Monday night will also be very different from the one that has been on the field for most of the season. Cowboys added Quinnen Williams And Logan Wilson at the trade deadline, and will also receive both Demarvion and rookie Shavon Revel, who returned from injury for this game.
However, even Jerry Jones himself admitted that the Cowboys were a player or two short of fixing their defense. They need every one of these reinforcements just to become a below average unit, let alone a quality one. And it is likely that even their collective presence will not correct everything that has gone wrong this year.
The Raiders need to make sure they do a much better job than they did a week ago getting the ball to their best player. Brock Bowers. The star tight end somehow finished the game against Denver with just three scores, just days after he had 12 catches for 127 yards and three touchdowns against Denver. Jaguars. Dallas' numbers against tight ends this season have been pretty good, but part of that is because it's played against a relatively weak pool of opposing tight ends — and Bowers, at his best, really operates as a receiver.
The Raiders will definitely have to line him up everywhere until they look at them favorably, and then throw the ball at him. Especially after the exchange Meyers In terms of time, they really don’t have anything else, if we talk about weapons in the ongoing game. Tre Tucker has tremendous speed and could possibly run one of the Dallas corners in space, but behind him in the wide receiver are Tyler Lockett (who was slaughtered by the Titans), Jack Beck and Dontie Thornton.
“Raiders” weakened in advance after the loss Jackson Powers-Johnson due to injury reserves, which could be particularly disruptive against Dallas' revamped interior front that now includes Williams, Kenny Clark And Osa Odighizuwa all together. The best path to success is likely to try to move Jeanty to the perimeter by attacking Dallas' smaller cornerbacks, who aren't as strong against the run as they are against the passer. If they can get Jinty outside, he can move up to the second level and try to force the Dallas defenders into space.
Cowboys vs. Raiders Prediction Picks
The Raiders may be at home, but they have too many deficiencies on defense for me to think they're going to slow down Dallas' offense the way the Cowboys' last two opponents have done. Meanwhile, Dallas' defense may have gotten enough reinforcements to keep from completely falling apart against an offense that doesn't make much sense in the first place. Picks: Cowboys 30, Raiders 20.
