Meta releases first whatsapp 2026 update with three new tools designed to make your group chats more practical and enjoyable.
The platform was presented through your blog that users will now have access to three new features – participant tags, text stickers and event reminders that whatsapp is said to be designed to “get even better at staying connected and expressing yourself in group chats,” with member tags being a standout.
Do you use WhatsApp group chats to manage your sports team? Or do you often organize social gatherings that require different roles? Member tags add more context to your group chats by allowing you to assign yourself a role so other members know who you are and what you do.
For example, you might tag yourself as “Coach” or “Goalkeeper” in a sports team group chat, or “Dad” in another. Your tags can be customized for each group you're in, so you're not limited to one tag for every chat you participate in.
The second handy feature is event reminders, designed to make it easier to organize social gatherings and gather invitees. With Event Reminders, you can create events and send them to your friends so everyone can access event details in one place, as well as set custom reminders that will “help everyone remember to go to a party” or join a pre-scheduled group chat at the right time.
These are the practical features, and now the fun part. Apart from member tags and event reminders, WhatsApp will now let you send text stickers to make your group chats really pop. You can turn any word into a colorful graphic by entering text into the sticker search, and add the newly created words to your sticker pack for quick access.
With these new group chat features, WhatsApp continues to lag behind the plethora of new tools that came out last year. In September WhatsApp announced five new messaging updatesincluding several artificial intelligence tools and the ability to share Live Photos with your contacts, and one of the most notable updates from last year was launching WhatsApp on Apple Watch is a long overdue integration that we have been patiently waiting for.
