Game of Selection, next arc in Jujutsu Kaisen anime after two-part season 3 premiereis a large-scale tournament in which jujutsu sorcerers and newly awakened people fight each other. The series' antagonist Kenjaku wants those who survive his game to develop jujutsu energy so he can take humanity to the next stage.
The arc begins when Megumi approaches Yuji. end of episode 2 of season 3but not for the reasons Yuuji thinks. Megumi needs Yuuji's power to save his sister Tsumiki, who found herself an unwitting participant in the tournament as one of the people awakened by Kenjaku at the end of the second season.
It's a pretty fun story with a different take on the classic tournament arc that most shonen find themselves in at one point or another. But as a result, the Cull game contains a lot of rules that author Gege Akutami doesn't convey very well at the beginning, especially since new rules and regulations are introduced later.
Considering how complex and confusing this storyline will be, we're laying out the basics of Cull to help viewers understand the events more easily. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3.
What is a selection game?
The Cull game is essentially one big battle royale, pitting 1000 sorcerers and curse users against each other as a means of generating curse energy to further Kenjaku's means of sorcerer supremacy. There are 10 colonies throughout Japan where battles take place, and they are fenced off with barriers separating them from each other. The only area not affected by the barriers is Hokkaido, as it is a holy land.
When the selection game begins, eight rules are revealed to all participants and anyone eligible to join. The design ensures that no one, not even Kenjaku, becomes a master of the game. Instead, the game runs itself, bound by a web of oaths and conditions set to Kenjak to ensure that his goal of collecting cursed energy is fulfilled, even if he dies.
What are the rules of the Cull game?
Although chapter 143 of the manga adapted in the second episode Jujutsu Kaisen In Season 3, the rules of the tournament are shown at the end, but not in the episode itself, most likely saving this explanation for the next episode when more about the tournament is explained. The initial rules are:
-
After awakening a cursed technique, a person must declare their participation in the Rejection Game by entering a barrier of their choice within 19 days.
-
Any player who fails to comply with the previous rule will be subject to the removal of the cursed equipment, which will most likely kill the person.
-
Any non-player who enters the barrier is immediately registered as a player and is considered to have entered upon entry.
-
Players accumulate points by killing other players.
-
Point values are assigned by the game and represent the player's life value, with wizards typically valued at five points and non-wizards at one point.
-
Barring the value of their lives, players can spend one hundred points to negotiate the addition of one new rule to the Selection Game.
-
The Game must accept any proposed rule subject to the previous condition unless it will have a significant and long-term impact on the Selection Game.
-
If a player's point total does not change for 19 consecutive days, they will be subject to Cursed Vehicle removal.
Who participates in the Cull Games?
Kenjaku initially starts the tournament after events of the Shibuya incidentwhen he steals Mahito's cursed technique, Idle Transfiguration, and uses it to activate two types of non-sorcerers he has marked. The former are people chosen to become vessels for the reincarnated sorcerers of the past (usually by swallowing a cursed object, as Yuuji did with Sukuna's fingers). The second are normal people whose brains were rewired to use the cursed energy, and thus awakened as jujutsu sorcerers. These include Megumi's sister Tsumiki, who, as a non-combatant, now has 19 days before she dies under the game's rules.
The “Selection Game” is considered the worst terrorist attack in the history of the jujutsu world. Not only does it violently involve civilians and reveal to the world the existence of cursed energy and curses, but it also threatens to wipe out the Japanese population and transform the survivors into new, unknown life forms.
What are Kenjaku's plans for the third season of JJK?
Kenjaku is Jujutsu KaisenThe most mysterious antagonist, much of his past remains unknown, although it is clear that he is ancient and has spent almost a thousand years orchestrating the Cull Game. After absorbing Mahito at the end of the second season, Kenjaku gains the ability to manipulate souls, which he uses to forcibly awaken cursed techniques in ordinary people and pit them against sorcerers in a brutal battle for survival, all in the name of human “evolution”.
This conflict generates a massive amount of cursed energy, which Kenjaku plans to use to unite all non-sorcerers in Japan with Tengen, an immortal sorcerer who maintains the country's barrier system from the Star Corridor Tombs. Over the centuries, Tengen's repeated fusions with the vessels have made them more curses than humans, and Kenjaku intends to use this state to completely erase the line between humans and curses. For him, mass fusion is nothing more than an experiment; it doesn't matter whether it leads to salvation or disaster as long as something new is born.
What is the goal of the heroes in JJK season 3?
Yuji, Megumi and their allies enter the Selection Game with different goals. Besides finding a way to save Tsumiki, their main goal is to free Gojo from the Prison Realm, knowing that their master's overwhelming power will stop Kenjaku's plan. To do this, they need to find a reborn sorcerer whose cursed technique can break the seal and free Gojo.
However, to achieve these goals they will have to fight. They need to score enough points to add new rules to the game to compensate for the impact of Rule 8 on Tsumiki. They will have to fight powerful sorcerers of past eras and awakened individuals who wield strange cursed techniques. Meanwhile, Kenjaku's plan continues to unfold behind the scenes.
The Cull Game is certainly one of the most chaotic and complex storylines in history, but it is also one of the most exciting. Expect a lot of the fighting that made Jujutsu Kaisen stand out in the first place.
