Core Gameplay Loop Monsters are coming! revolves around your Hero and the city, and keeping him alive will be extremely important.
Unlike other Bullet Hell games, Monsters are coming! treats death differently. Your hero is not invincible, and he may die if he takes more damage than he can heal. However, the death of your Hero does not automatically mean that your run is over.
This guide will explain why your hero's death matters and why it's best to avoid it.
How hero death works in Monsters are Coming!
Unlike traditional games, your hero can die more than once. He may die from wounds received from enemies and if he cannot be cured. The death of a hero will result in a new hero appearing, who will land with all upgrades and full health.
Simply put, you can let your hero die, and more than once. However, you should be careful with the death of your hero, since there is a penalty for each death.
Death penalty for a hero in Monsters Come!
Although death does not automatically end your run, there is a penalty for each death of your hero. In the screenshot below you will see that the game asks me to place a memorial on any available grid.
The Key to Longer Survival in Monsters are coming! This place different areas in your city. Some of them offer resources, while others destroy enemies. Your city has a limited number of cells, and you cannot expand it indefinitely.
The more times your Hero dies, the more Memorials you need to place. Each Memorial fills the grid, reducing the total number of districts you can activate. Therefore, every Hero death directly reduces your city's chances of survival (since the grid space is reduced and you can have fewer districts).
