Because I forgot to change my alarm for the weekend, my Saturday started too early. I'm clearly not taking the unexpected free time very well, as I spent the entire morning writing my will. Unfortunately, the co-op does not allow you to assign tasks and riddles to the heirs. This oversight shattered the mental image of my brother and sister dueling on my gaming PC, armed with padded gladiator-style shafts that look like giant Q-tips.
I'm sure the rest of the RPS team has better plans. Here's what they're playing this weekend.
Mark: Having Bannerlord disabled my banners in recent weeks I'll probably just dip into a light Cyberpunk 2077 and Once Upon a Time in Katamari this weekend. Comfortable games that will help me recuperate a little before I pick up the next new thing.
Callum: Still working on it. Hades 2 and Outer Worlds, plus I had my eye on a little time travel game called A Better World that just came out on Steam. But video games can wait this weekend. My local cinema is showing the new movie Knives Out and I sit down. Are you saying this movie stars Andrew Scott, Josh O'Connor, AND Jeffrey Wright? And will Daniel Craig still deliver the most difficult lines in his stupid Louisiana drawl? This is my Avengers: Endgame and believe me I will scream every time Benoit Blanc absentmindedly mutters that he is “forced” by the grisly murder.
Jeremy: I recently finished Shinobi: Art of Vengeance and it's really great, although I think the level design leaves a lot to be desired at times. Still, the game is epic enough to keep it on my Steam Deck for the foreseeable future, and the tracks that Yuzo Koshiro contributed to the soundtrack will live in my head for an eternity, as will all of his work. So yeah, I'll probably still be playing this game over the weekend, finishing up the last few missions – although I doubt I'll have the patience to complete it 100% and find the secret boss cameo from Shinobi III, alas.
James: I'm willing to play any game that doesn't have the words “Black” or “Friday” or a combination of both in its title. Maybe Criterion's 2006 first-person shooter, Black? Hmm, maybe not, actually.
Edwin: I'll try to finish a video game for review this weekend. This video game is the first horror game in a long time that actually scared me. “You sick little monkey,” I exclaim, squinting down the hallway where I can see something in a pool of light at the far end. “You are a dirty, negatively spacious, ambient noise-making idiot. I won't go there. But I have to, otherwise I won’t break the embargo.” When I'm not telling myself things like that, I'll be roasting pumpkin and thinking about the December deluge of game announcements.
Jules: I'm playing a couple of games to prepare for the interview next week. I can't say much more than I'm looking forward to diving into some great puzzles and classic strategy. In fact, I'm going to be preparing a lot of beautiful words that we will be publishing as part of the RPS Advent Calendar and RPS 100, which starts on Monday.
And you, dear reader, what are you playing this weekend?…
