Bethesda Game Studio boss Todd Howard fueled the Fallout 5 fire by saying it's the franchise “we're still working on the most.”
His comments relate in part to the online multiplayer game. Fallout 76which has been an ongoing project of the studio since its inception. very shaky 2018 release. Its existence means that while Bethesda hasn't released a mainline single-player Fallout game since the 4th installment in 2015, Bethesda has had the Fallout team constantly working on it since then. But the team wasn't just working on 76.
“First of all, I will say that, looking at 76, we never stopped developing Fallout. We've had a whole team working on Fallout for a long time. So Fallout as a franchise is the game we're still working on the most.” Howard told Game Informer.
“Right now, most of our internal studio is focused on Elder Scrolls 6. We're doing other things with Fallout that haven't been announced yet, and you know the time will come for that. The fans bother me, like, “Well, what else? What else? Feed me! But look, we're working on something and we like to wait. So, I think there will be a moment to talk about it, and we want to make those special moments for our fans.”

Bethesda previously stated that Fallout 5 would be its next game after The Elder Scrolls 6.which coincidentally was announced the same year that Fallout 76 came out, but which lay dormant until Star field was manufactured and released. Development of Elder Scrolls 6 is already in full swingalthough Some fans believe that TES6 could come out as early as 2027which I consider wishful thinking, but who knows. I suspect Howard and his team will leave this later in Fallout 5's development to properly announce the game; we could have another one Fallout 4-a similar scenario where only a few months pass between announcement and release.
It's also important to note how much has changed at Bethesda Game Studios since it released Fallout 4. Fallout 76, a multiplayer game, was a significant step forward for the studio, and Starfield represented the studio's most ambitious project yet as an entirely new IP. Moreover, both games were not instant hits and required significant additional work upon release. It's things like this that change a studio, studio director Angela Browder noted.
“I think that each [our past games] It's a learning experience, right? Let's take Fallout 76 – yes, we learned how to make multiplayer; we also learned what it means when you release a product that isn't necessarily going to be a big success right away,” Browder said. “And we learned how to invest and listen to our players and strengthen who we are and what we are, our own capacity for resilience and adversity and all of that, right?
“We also learned what it means when you release a product that isn't necessarily an immediate success.”
“When you talk about Starfield, we did the biggest thing we've ever done in our entire lives: we created space. I'm afraid of space, I think space is really scary, but we created space! Everything we learned by putting space into Starfield carried over into Elder Scrolls 6. It's all learning.
“We've become better developers by creating a multiplayer game, we've become better developers by developing our own intellectual property now because these are new forces,” Browder added. “It tested us differently. It taught us many things that we would never have known otherwise. And I do think that even when we move on to games that are intellectual property that we've created before and that we understand classically, we're still better developers by doing that because your brain thinks differently when you do those things. And I think that will only make every game we make better.”
Since then, Bethesda has, of course, collaborated on a Fallout TV series, with episode one airing last year, episode two starting this month, and episode three already greenlit. And this is a very good thing – very much in keeping with the almost absurd nature of the games, which combines a certain ruthless optimism with a ridiculously cruel and merciless world. Todd Howard already said that The events of Fallout 5 will take place in the timeline corresponding to the series.set either after its events or during it.
There's never been a better time for Fallout then. The only question is when it will come. The giveaway is open – make your guesses now.
