Baldur's Gate 3 could soon be an Xbox Play Anywhere game, according to a supposedly premature ad posted on the Xbox Store.
Personally, I don't see any ads in the Xbox Store on either console or PC, but the image was taken on Reddit shows a promotional block for Baldur's Gate 3 with the words “Now Xbox Play Anywhere”. It could be a fake, but the sloppiness and odd angle make it a convincing fake.
I asked Larian for clarification this morning, but at this point his position is “no comment,” which I think bodes well.
Xbox Play Anywhere games, as I'm sure you know, are games that you buy once and can be played on PC, Xbox, and other devices. new portable ROG Ally Xall within the Xbox ecosystem. So if you bought Baldur's Gate 3 as an Xbox Play Anywhere game, you could pick and choose where you play.
I'm not sure how this works retroactively, or whether if you already have the game on Xbox you'll be able to go back and play on another platform, but I'm guessing it will. I don't understand why you are punishing those who have previously used the game.
Baldur's Gate 3 remains one of the best RPGs of this generation, and Larian has seriously updated the game since its release in 2023. Latest BG3 patch, patch 8.released in the spring, brought with it cross-play, new subclasses, a photo mode, and the long-awaited addition of split-screen co-op to the Xbox Series S. In short, if you haven't played it yet, do it.
