The hospice offers wellbeing support to Islanders living with life-limiting illnesses.
Le Bourg Hospice in Guernsey has launched a free 12-week program open to anyone aged 18 or over who has a terminal or serious progressive illness.
Héloïse Tanguy, head of the service, said: “There was a recognized need for some sort of support service for people living with terminal or chronic illness, to give them support… advice and to really create a safe environment for them to participate.”
Wellness classes are held on Thursdays at the Wellbeing Center at Andrew Mitchell House.
Ms Tanguy said the scheme allowed people to “have this space and they can plug in and plug in”.
She said: “It also gives respite to carers and family members, they don't have to worry about being looked after.”
“We see the impact on the people we have, but we just wish we could reach more people because we know the positive impact it can have on people.”
Service user Len Lawson-Domai, who attended sessions for about four weeks, said the hospice nurses were “absolutely wonderful people”.
“I like talking to people, we’re all the same, we all have problems, we love talking to each other and we love talking to the nurses.”
