Ono: Welcome to Derry Opening this weekend, it will take viewers back to 1962 to witness a new group of children being tormented by an ancient, fear-fueled clown. Most of the original This Focusing on children and teenagers facing terrifying danger, it's no surprise that the series follows suit. However, HBO Welcome to Derry raises the panic even further than Andy Muschietti's recent statement. This moviesand the series sets this new brutal tone faster than viewers might expect.
Welcome to Derry The story takes place on a snowy January evening in the haunted town of Derry, Maine, circa 1962. After being kicked out of a movie theater for sneaking in and refusing to go home to his abusive parents, a 12-year-old boy (Miles Eckhardt) clings to a pacifier for solace while hitchhiking out of town. When they finally offer him a ride, the frozen child agrees. However, it doesn't take him long to realize what a mistake he made.
We'll stop here so as not to spoil anything in the episode. Suffice it to say, Welcome to Derry it takes little time to establish just how graphic and horrifying the show will be, especially when it comes to the violence that children are subjected to in the city. The series' debut episode proves from start to finish that its creators aren't afraid to “go there” to the point where it probably should accompanied by a graphic content warning for those who may be a little sensitive to child abuse; it's really that terrible.
Showrunner Jason Fuchs compared Pennywise to a shark from Jawsa monster shown in glimpses that leads to great reward. IN Welcome to DerryHowever, the focus shifts towards shape-shifting horror reminiscent of King's original novel. Thanks to the long runtime and prestige of the HBO series, the series takes its time to show off Pennywise and instead explores these horrors, resulting in a scarier and more intense horror than the 2017 and 2019 films.
Any viewer even superficially familiar with This should know what they're getting into when it comes to child abuse, but Welcome to Derry turns the volume up to 11 compared to miniseries and even movies. With that in mind, PSA deserves to have these adaptations where the line can be drawn. And yet, Ono: Welcome to Derry this is a great series with the first episode, it's the perfect watch for the Halloween season.
