We Were Liars Season 2 Plot Details and Rumors
Full spoilers ahead We were liars Season 1. Potential spoilers follow. We were liars season 2.
Bye We were liars The first season followed the novel of the same name by E. Lockhart, the second season will follow her second book entitled Family of Liars – with a little perversion.
Speaking to Deadline, Lockhart teased: “We have a second season planned. We were liarsand showrunners Julie Plec and Karina Adly McKenzie take on a story that is in Family of Liarsmy second book, but they also add lots of interesting new twists.
“They have a lot of ideas up their sleeves, so people who know Family of Liars they will see everything they want to see, but they will also be surprised. I think it will be a lot of fun.”
Without giving too much away: you can read the book if you want. Really I want to know what We were liars there will be a second season, but Family of Liars is a prequel story mentioned in the season one finale.
The book chronicles the summer when the Sinclair sisters were caught up in their own mystery on Beechwood Island when they were teenagers.
As Deadline explains, “The plan is to interweave this material with younger generation storylines, as well as create younger versions of the three Sinclair sisters.”
And there is a direct reference to this in the Season 1 finale, when Carrie and Bess discuss whether an incident in their past during Summer of 16 was the cause of everything terrible that has now happened to them in their present. But the details of what they actually did that faithful summer are kept secret.
There's also the fact that by the end of the finale, although Johnny was supposed to have seemingly moved on from the world along with the other Liars, he actually hasn't.
Instead, Carrie sees her son for the first time in the kitchen and talks to him. But why he wasn't killed off remains a mystery in the second season.
It is unclear whether the same can be assumed for the souls of Gath and Mirren. But Maheshwari, who played Gat in the first season, said: Us he would be willing to return if given the opportunity: “If it happens, I’m so excited. I'm so ready for this, but I really don't know. It's hard to say. I'm sure they have ideas. I don’t really understand what they’re thinking.”
Will there be more seasons of We Were Liars?
Family of Liars this is not the last book in We were liars family – and that's because Lockhart's third novel will be released in November 2025. We fell apartwas published.
And speaking to Deadline, Lockhart revealed that although We fell apart this is a separate story, there are references to the world (and two seasons). So when it comes to developing a third season, Lockhart says, “All I can say is that my showrunners have early copies of this book and we'll see what they want to cook up.”
But what this means for a potential third season is unclear. As explained Diversity, We fell apart “The story follows a new cast of characters who have their own secrets and mysteries to unravel.”
Among them is Matilda, who is invited to spend the summer on Hidden Beach with her long-lost father: a reclusive artist named Kingsley Cello. But when she arrives there, her father is nowhere to be seen, and instead he meets his half-brother Mir, a former child star named Brock, and a brooding boy named Tatum living in a house by the sea.
Again, Lockhart explains that although this is a standalone book, it is still connected to We were liars Universe: “The first thing I want to say is that it can be read alone, but for people who have read We Were Liars, I think what they will enjoy most is what comes towards the beginning of the book, which is the characters invading Beechwood Island.”
Whether it will be treated as a spin-off, like a third season, or not at all, we will have to wait and see.
