The end is near us. Netflix shared the first five minutes of the upcoming final season Stranger Thingshinting at a climactic battle between the city of Hawkins and Vecna.
In the clip, young Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) finds himself back in the Upside Down World, where he was sent in season one, and is being pursued by terrifying monsters. He is eventually captured by Vecna, who says, “Finally we can begin. You and me, we're going to do such beautiful things together, William. Such beautiful things.”
The confusing scene provides insight into what actually happened to Will while he was trapped for much of the first season, and suggests that Will may still be affected by what Vecna put into him early in the story.
Stranger Things It will conclude this fall with a two-part season, with the first half premiering on Netflix on November 26th and the second half on Christmas Day. The fifth and final season takes place in 1987, four years after the events of the first season and on the eve of the anniversary of Will's disappearance. The first four episodes of the season will air on Volume 1 in November, with three more premiering on Christmas Day. However, there will still be a two-hour finale event remaining on New Year's Eve. Coinciding with the Netflix release, there will be a theatrical release of the final episode, which fans will be able to watch in real life with other fans.
“I think what's unique about this season is that it starts off with a bit of chaos because our heroes ultimately lost at the end of season four,” co-creator Ross Duffer said in a statement. “Usually we talk about their normal lives and how they go to school, and then introduce the supernatural element. But in this case, this season is a sprint from the very beginning.”
Shawn Levy, executive producer and director, added: “The action is next level, the visuals are next level, but I'm also happy to say that the emotional center remains the same. And part of the magic of this show is that even as we evolve, even as the storytelling gets more epic, it's always connected to the characters we love.”
The cast of the fifth season also includes Millie Bobby Brown, Winona RyderDavid Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawk and Jamie Campbell Bower.
