Washington star defender Demon Williams Jr.. announced he would enter the transfer portal on Tuesday evening. When Williams officially joins the team, he will have a “no contact” sign. In a message posted to social media, Williams thanked Washington's coaches, teammates and fans before announcing his retirement.
“I have to do what’s best for me and my future.” Williams wrote. After much thought and prayer, I will enter the transference portal.”
News of Williams' intention to enter the portal comes just days after the star QB signed a new deal to return to Washington for the 2026 season. According to Huskey, they are preparing to use any legal means to enforce the terms of this contract. ESPN.
Sources told CBS Sports reporters Matt Zentiz and Chris Hammer that LSU will be one team to watch while Williams explores other options in the portal. Williams did it all while leading Washington to a 9-4 record, including a win over Boise State at the Los Angeles Bowl.
Coming out of high school in Arizona, Williams was a four-star recruit and the No. 19 quarterback in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. Although Williams was not a starter for most of his true freshman season, he played in every game before starting the final two games. His skill was evident and he built on that in a big 2025 season.
In 26 games with the Huskies, Williams completed 71.5 percent of his throws for 4,009 yards, 33 touchdowns and nine interceptions while adding 893 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
Behind Williams, the Huskies don't have much experience at quarterback. The only quarterback to attempt a pass for the Huskies last season was Tulane broadcast Kai Hortoncompleting four of seven passes for 13 yards.
