Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Carson Wentz was placed on injured reserve Monday as he reportedly faces season-ending surgery on his non-throwing shoulder.
Wentz took the starting position when JJ McCarthy suffered a high ankle sprain. He made his first start of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 21 and led the team to a 48–10 victory. He led the Vikings to just one more win in the four starts he made after that.

He has 1,216 passing yards, six touchdown passes and five interceptions.
Athletic reported that Wentz played several games with the injury. McCarthy is reportedly set to reclaim the starting job in Week 9 against the Detroit Lions.

Wentz was selected second overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2016 draft. In 2017, he became a Pro Bowler for the first time in his career and may have won league MVP had he not been injured during the season. That same year, Nick Foles took over the Eagles' starting role and led the team to the Super Bowl title against the New England Patriots.
After that season, Wentz's career took a different path. Foles will compete for the starting job and the team will later select a draft pick. Jalen Hurtswhich will later take over for the foreseeable future.

As of the 2020 season, the Vikings are his fifth team in five years. He started games for the Indianapolis Colts Washington commandersLos Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs.
The Vikings are 3-4 heading into Week 9 and will need to consistently get back into the win column to make the playoffs.
