With a sunny Thanksgiving weekend, it was the perfect day for families to visit gardens or national parks throughout Quebec.

Apple growers and winegrowers are delighted with the mild weather, they told TVA Nouvelles on Sunday, as tourists flock to the Prioksky region.

However, given the hot and dry weather of the past few weeks, this is far from a record year, the Quebec Apple Growers Association noted.

Apples are smaller and some growers have had lower yields than expected.

“We are happy,” said Marc-Andre Trottier, co-owner of Verger Trottier. “People come every day to pick beautiful apples from the orchard.”

“Two or three days of heat in October do not bother us. It's better than a rainy day […] people can’t come,” he explained.

“Magical ingredients, warmth, sun… At the beginning of the season we had a little rain, and it was normal. It was in August that we [en] there was not enough, but everything is there to produce very good apples,” added another co-owner of Verger Trottier.

Wonderful weather over the weekend also pleased outdoor enthusiasts.

The outdoor craze in Quebec began this summer in the context of a trade dispute with the United States and continued through the fall, the Société des institutions de plein air du Québec (Sépaq) confirmed.
