As we reported earlier Saturday, a terrifying situation unfolded on the Brown University campus in Providence, Rhode Island, when an active shooter apparently went on a rampage and shot and killed several students. According to the latest tragic data, two were killed and nine were injured.
The suspect is still at large, with little information about who he is or what his motivation is. However, authorities have now released video footage of the subject apparently leaving the crime scene:

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said seven of the wounded were in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital and that all 11 victims were identified as students. The shooting happened in a classroom, he said. also disclosed.
PREVIOUSLY: Update: 2 dead, 8 injured in Brown University shooting; The suspect is still at large
The suspect appears surprisingly calm in the video, considering he may have just brutally ended the lives of at least two people. It's confusing. Unfortunately, the footage didn't capture high quality image of his potential personality:
“We believe the suspect is leaving the area, walking down Hope Street and turning right onto Waterman. He will be wearing dark clothing. You won't be able to see his face,” he said. [Providence Police Deputy Chief] O'Hara said of the video.
Students were in the middle of the exam period as the Christmas holidays approached:
Brown student Ethan Schenker was studying for final exams in the basement of the campus library when he received a message from the university urging all students to go into isolation.
“I immediately called my parents and brother to let them know I was okay and make sure my friends were okay,” he told CNN's Jim Sciutto. “It felt unreal. I think that's what a lot of people experience, and that's what I did.”
It was a nightmare situation that has unfortunately become all too common:
🚨 HEART BUILDING
A Brown University student wrote to his mother during today's active shooter lockdown:
“Mom, there's a live shooting on campus. I'm going to run. I love you.”

He's now barricaded in a warehouse with a dozen others. The lights are off. Quiet. One student had a panic attack.
This is America 2025. Pray for them.
Student Sophia Holman described the chaos unfolding, but praised the first responders:
There's a lot of chaos and a lot of fear right now, but I think there's also a lot of trust, a belief that they [police] were there as quickly as they were and that, you know, the medical staff is doing everything they can for everyone who was hurt.
Classrooms have been cleared and more than 400 law enforcement officers are in the area. However, students were asked stay locked up for the night.
Hopefully early Sunday morning we will learn more about this tragic incident and be able to report that the suspect has been captured and is behind bars. As a parent of college-age children, having to write a story like this breaks my heart. I pray for the dead and wounded. RedState will keep you updated on new developments.
