Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded Controller Review – Reloaded and Ready to Dominate

Review of the Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded modular controller

Back in 2022 we reviewed the original Victrix Pro BFG Wireless Controllercalling it a premium, easily customizable alternative to the Sony DualSense. Its modular design, excellent build quality, and user-friendly controls make it highly rated, and rightfully so. Since then he has become a fan favorite. A good friend of mine calls it his favorite controller. After spending time with the new Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded, it's clear why this line continues to shine.

Full disclosure: I'm older now and no longer competitive enough to justify using a pro controller for my games. I just don't need them, so they aren't made for me. When you've been using regular controllers for so long, professional controllers require a steep learning curve. I keep accidentally pressing the bottom paddles, fiddling with the placement of the pause buttons, and never settling into the trigger lock position. You know what they say about old dogs…well, I'm that dog. And yes, Pro BFG Reloaded was not easy to master. But that doesn't take away from how great this controller really is.

First impressions always matter, and Reloaded nails it right away. Out of the box it looks like a premium product. The presentation is clean and thoughtful. It's a nice-looking controller that comes with a long braided cable, modular components, and accessories. And it's all neatly packaged in a premium case. From the sleek finishes to the subtle accents, everything feels purposeful and high quality. Turtle Beach clearly wants you to know that it's not just another third-party site. This is serious competition gear and is presented as such.

If you own the original, you'll feel right at home as Reloaded simply improves on what already worked so well. It comes in an elegant black (or optional white) color with a slightly textured surface and improved grip pads. The updated Fightpad module now feels more natural with its ergonomic layout and better button placement, allowing you to rest your wrist comfortably while keeping important buttons at your fingertips. This may seem like a small thing, but in fighting games, such a small change makes a huge difference.

In-hand performance is where this controller excels. The new Hall effect joysticks are the stars here. These magnetic proximity sensors replace traditional potentiometers, delivering drift-free accuracy and smooth response. Although the poles require a little more force to apply pressure, they glide easily and with constant tension. 5-stage Hall clutch provides precise control. It's absolutely perfect for shooters like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 or Destiny 2. The tactile “click” of the front and back buttons is nice and responsive. That being said, players like me with large or short hands may need time to find the perfect grip and avoid accidental presses.

As with every professional controller, customization is key, and I'm happy to say that Reloaded is deep in this regard. The controller is adaptable whether you're taking headshots in Call of Duty, pulling off combos in Street Fighter 6, or exploring large-scale RPGs. Four remappable back buttons provide instant access to key actions, while the Victrix Control Hub app allows you to fine-tune everything from button assignments, dead zones and trigger sensitivity.

However, I had some problems with the app at first. At first it was glitchy and unresponsive, but after a reboot it worked. The ability to reassign buttons and update firmware without connecting to a PC? This is a game changer for me.

The connection is reliable. The low-latency 2.4GHz wireless connection works flawlessly, and when you need absolute reliability, the included braided USB-C cable delivers reliable wired performance. The cord length is about 3 meters. The length will suit most, but with my current setup I could use another foot or two. It's not a deal breaker either way as I always prefer to play wirelessly.

Interesting note: the rumble effects work great on the Xbox version, but the PlayStation model doesn't support haptic feedback in the same way. Something to keep in your back pocket if you're trying to decide which controller is best for your platform.

Battery life is stable at around 20 hours. This is more than enough for marathon sessions. So I have no complaints about the amount of juice this controller has.

It goes without saying that being able to change joysticks, buttons, and D-pads is great. You can literally reconfigure your layout in seconds. The included tool works flawlessly. First-person shooter players can switch to a taller sniper stick, while fighting game fans will appreciate the precision of the six-button Fightpad module. The ergonomic layout makes long sessions more comfortable. Ultimately, all this gives you a competitive advantage.

Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded is everything fans loved about the original, now taken to damn near perfection. The addition of Hall effect sensors eliminates drift, the updated Fightpad module improves comfort and control, and the build quality is top notch. At $209.99, it's definitely an investment and the price will give a lot of people pause, but for competitive gamers or those who are serious about their setup, it's worth every penny.
