It was one of the biggest internet terms of the year, and now it's official: “vibration coding” is the word of 2025 according to the Collins Dictionary.
Victory over runners-up including ringing, aura cultivation, broligarchy, glazing, biohackingand what's more, this term was coined in February 2025 by former OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy, who published on X mode of coding and software development that relies heavily on artificial intelligence, “where you completely give in to the vibe, take the exponent and forget that the code even exists.”

Essentially, Vibe programmers don't actually write code; instead, they can describe what they want to create and hand over the reins to the AI - and GPT-5 from OpenAI, Claude 4.1 Opus and Grok 4 (Expert)All functions operate at varying levels of efficiency when it comes to vibration encoding. I write for Mashable, Christian de Luper described this term So:

“Vibe coding is definitely a buzzword. day. This is a type of software development that does not require any traditional programming skills. Rather, you simply describe the type of software, application, or tool you want to create and let AI do the rest.”
In a blog postThe Collins Dictionary described it as a term “that captures something fundamental about our evolving relationship with technology… Essentially, it's telling a machine what you want, rather than painstakingly coding it yourself. This is programming with vibrations, not variables. While tech experts debate whether this is revolutionary or foolhardy, the term has resonated far beyond Silicon Valley, speaking to a broader cultural shift toward using AI for everything in everyday life.”
