Vermintide 2 Reaches New Heights With Millions of Fresh Recruits

Vermintide 2 has 25 million players

Vermintide 2 shows no signs of slowing down, even after more than seven years of merciless battles and grim triumphs. As part of Tide Fatshark's 10th anniversary celebration, the studio has briefly made the classic dark fantasy co-op game available for free. The result was like a surge of enthusiasm, with 5.9 million downloads in just four days. In addition to years of steady growth, the game has attracted over 25 million players since its debut in 2018, a major milestone that reflects how the community is still eager to take on the hordes of Skaven and Rotbloods.

Design Director Joakim Setterberg shared the team's gratitude for the ongoing support from the community. He expressed: “Ten years later, players are still hooked on Vermintide 2, which is amazing. Fatshark's goal has always been to create games that people love to play, and this weekend proved that the passion continues.”

Players who kept swinging their blades enjoyed Return to the Rake, a newly revived and expanded mission from the first Vermintide. The update invites players to once again board the Dawn Runner and take part in intense boat battles that reflect old memories and bring fresh, cinematic co-op moments.

Even if the free storage window has passed, newbies are not left to fend for themselves. The base game and its DLC packs are currently available at discounts of up to 90% as part of the ongoing holiday season.

The anniversary celebrations also spill over into Darktide, where fans will soon hear a familiar presence. Tim Bentnick, of series-wide fame, returns as the voice of the Ogryn class from Darktide, adding another thread of continuity to the expanding Tide legacy. More details are on the horizon, promising even richer content. So be sure to stay tuned for future updates.
