Vancouver Canucks announced They traded captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild on Friday.

In exchange for the star defenseman, the Canucks will receive forwards Marco Rossi and Liam Ogren, defenseman Zeev Buyum and a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

The deal came a day after the Canucks lost 3-2 to the Buffalo Sabers at Rogers Arena.

Vancouver sits last in the NHL standings with 25 points and a 2-7-1 record in its last 10 games.

Hughes was among faint bright spots for the struggling team with 23 points this season, including two goals.

The 26-year-old from Orlando, Florida, selected seventh overall by the Canucks in the 2018 draft, won the Norris Trophy in 2024 as the NHL's top defenseman.

In 459 regular-season games, he scored 432 points and set a new record for points by a Canucks defenseman in October, passing Alex Edler (409).

In a statement from the Canucks, team president Jim Rutherford thanked Hughes and called him “one of the greatest Canucks of all time.”

Rutherford said the team was fortunate to “get these very good young players” in the trade.

“They will be a key part of the reconstruction we are in now and will give us a bright future,” Rutherford said.

Rossi, who was selected ninth overall by the Wild in the 2020 NHL Draft, has 13 points in 17 games for the Wild this season.

Oghren and Bull were also first-round picks for the Wild.
