USWNT to open January camp, play first friendly of 2026 in Carson

The women's national soccer team will return to Carson in 2026 for the first time in nearly two years for its annual January training camp, U.S. Soccer announced Thursday.

The 10-day camp will run from January 17 to 27 and will culminate with two international matches. The first, on January 24 against Paraguay, will be held at the Dignity Health Sports Park and will be dedicated to the two-time world champion. Christen Presswho announced her retirement this fall.

The location and opponent of the second match on January 27 has yet to be determined.

“The January camp is a vital part of our annual schedule, especially with 2026 being a World Cup qualifying year,” USWNT coach Emma Hayes said in a statement. “We don’t spend many training days together during the year, so it’s very important to have a full week of training and two matches.

“I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made as a team in 2025, but we still have a way to go to get to where we want to be at the CONCACAF W Championship in the fall.”

Press, born and raised in Palos Verdes Estates, about 10 miles from Dignity Health Sports Park, scored 64 goals for the USWNT, ninth most in team history. She helped the U.S. win back-to-back Women's World Cup titles in 2015 and 2019 and spent the last four years of her professional club career with her hometown Angel City FC.

The first 2,000 fans through the gates on January 24th will receive a commemorative Christen Press bobblehead.

No venue has hosted more USWNT matches than Dignity Health Sports Park, which has hosted 21 US games under various names since 2003, shortly after the stadium opened. The U.S. went 20 games unbeaten at the stadium (19 wins and one tie) before losing its last match there, defeating Mexico 2-0 on Feb. 26, 2024, in the CONCACAF Gold Cup W, a tournament the U.S. will go on to play.
win.

The USWNT had planned to hold its training camp in Carson last January, but deadly wildfires in Southern California forced US Soccer to move the camp to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Pre-sale tickets for January matches will be available for purchase from 10:00 a.m. PST on Friday until 8:00 a.m. PST on Monday.

Tickets for both matches go on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. PT.
