USC and Brown agreed to cancel the upcoming men's basketball game at Galen Center on Sunday in light of recent mass shooting on Brown's campus.
USC announced the cancellation Tuesday morning, sending its support to Brown and the victims. The school said in a statement that it plans to announce a new non-conference opponent for the same spot on Sunday.
The matchup with Brown was supposed to be USC's non-conference finale. The Trojans have yet to lose outside of Big Ten play this season and are currently 9-0.
USC was set to be Brown's first opponent since last Sunday, when two people were killed and nine wounded in a deadly shooting on campus.
Sunday night, USC women's basketball coach Lindsay Gottlieb, a Brown alumna, was excited. addressing shooting after her team's loss to No. 1 Connecticut.
Gottlieb said her former teammate had a daughter who was still hiding from the gunman in the library basement during the Sunday afternoon game.
“It doesn’t have to be this way,” she said. “Sending thoughts and prayers to my teammates who have children there. To the parents who have to worry about their children, I just want to leave it at that, but I just want to say that we are the only country that lives this way.”
