Kelly Pannek and Abby Murphy scored two goals each and the United States battled back from a goal down in the first minute to beat Canada 10-4 in Game 3 of the Rivalry Series on Wednesday night.
Kendall Coyne Schofield had a goal and two assists, and Tessa Jahnecke, Jessie Compher, Britta Curl-Salemme, Alex Carpenter and Kirsten Simms also scored for the USA.
The Americans, who had won the first three of four games of the series, scored five unanswered goals after Canada's Sarah Fillier scored 48 seconds into the game and four more in a row in the third.
Gwyneth Phillips made 30 saves for Team USA.
Sophie Jacques scored twice, Fillier had a goal and an assist and Julia Gosling also scored for Canada, which gave up 10 goals to the United States for the first time in history. The previous high was nine in 2012.
After allowing five goals on 17 shots in her first Rivalry Series start, Anne-Renee Debiens was replaced by Emerance Maschmeier midway through the second period. Maschmeyer stopped seven of 12 shots.
The final game of the series and the last meeting of the main rivals before the February Olympics will take place on Saturday in Edmonton.
In November, defending world champion USA won the first two games 4-1 in Cleveland and 6-1 in Buffalo, New York.
The U.S. led Wednesday thanks to Canada's weak defense, although the hosts scored three goals in the second period, including two in the final two minutes, to leave Canada within two goals of trailing heading into the third.
The second part of Jacques' game experienced a video review of goalkeeper interference. A subsequent postponement of the game's penalty in favor of the United States gave Canada a power play opportunity to start the third.
Jacques knocked the puck off the post, but that was as close as Canada got during the lead. The USA then resumed scoring, scoring four unanswered goals.
Canada, defending olympic gold medaliststurned the puck over under pressure and left opposing players undetected below the face-off circles in his own zone.
Canada's first real sustained pressure on the U.S. net led to the second goal when Jacques tapped Phillips' puck at 13:01 of the second period.
Gosling scored on a power play rebound at 18:42.
Canada outscored the United States 17-10 in the first period, but the latter was the more tenacious team in both nets.
Coyne Schofield and Compher gave the U.S. a 4-1 lead with goals 39 seconds apart in the first period.
Canada took an early lead when Ella Shelton's pass off the boards deflected off Filje's skate into the net.
Previous installments of the Rivalry Series included five and seven games. The February Olympics and the Women's Professional Hockey League schedule have shortened it this season.
