Unity is allegedly introducing a new annual fee for its largest enterprise users, requiring a “minimum commitment” of between $250,000 and $2 million, depending on each game's revenue. It will reportedly “apply to the purchase of a Unity subscription license and support products.”
Customer email shared with Mobilegamer.biz reportedly told customers that this “minimum commitment” was determined by the game's gross revenue for the previous year.
This fee appears to be in addition to the 5% price increase that goes into effect for Enterprise and Pro customers on January 12.
“If you are required to use Unity Enterprise based on compliance with the Unity software tier detailed in the Unity Editor Software Terms of Use, you will be subject to the Unity Enterprise Minimum Commitment Program,” the email allegedly stated.
“This program requires you to pay Unity a certain minimum commitment amount at the beginning of each subscription year, which will apply to your purchase of a Unity subscription license and support products. This minimum liability amount will be determined based on your gross income for the previous twelve months, as detailed in the table below.”
The table shows that games made with Unity with gross revenue of $25 million or more in the previous year will be required to provide a “minimum commitment” of $250,000, with price increases as detailed below:
| Made with Unity Gross Revenue for Previous Year | Minimum commitment for a given year ($) |
|---|---|
| From $25,000,000 to $50,000,000 |
US$250,000 |
| From $50,000,000 to $100,000,000 |
US$500,000 |
| From $100,000,000 to $250,000,000 |
1,000,000 US dollars |
| More than $250,000,000 |
US$2,000,000 |
This follows the decision in 2023 to introduce – and then abandon – execution fee Every time you install a Unity game after reaching certain install and revenue thresholds. There was significant reaction to this moveand Unity eventually execution fee removed for any games created under the Unity Personal license.
