Underrated ‘slow life RPG’ Fantasy Life i gets a free roguelike mode in surprise new year update

An underrated “slow life” RPG, Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, took up a lot of my time last year. Switch 2 – just received exciting New Year's content.

The update, free and available now on all platforms (PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch), is called Sinister Broker Bazario's Schemes and adds a new location to the game called Snoozaland, where Fantasy Life i becomes a roguelike – one life, one try, see how far you go.

Over there in Snoozaland, you always start out as an unequipped level 1 character, and the world will rearrange itself every time you try it. You learn new lives—the game's job/class/role system—on the job and collect gear as you explore.

There's a powerful final boss and powerful rewards awaiting you, and there are alchemical robots that can potentially spit out powerful items if you fill them with various unwanted materials and equipment first.

Game website it sounds like a stand-alone experience, which presumably means that the character you create during your adventures in Snoozaland only lasts as long as your run, and that there's no real consistency to it.

I think Fantasy Life i is one of the best looking games on the Switch 2.. It's a cross between Animal Crossing and Dragon Quest—a game that's part city building, resource gathering, and crafting, and part role-playing adventure. It's bright, colorful and uplifting.
