The film, which can be seen in 240 countries and territories around the world, uses never-before-seen archival footage to trace the period during which the artist “faced many challenges while creating the songs that would define the new decade” of 1970, according to Amazon MGM Studios.
At that time, the Beatles had broken up, and I thought, “What do I do now? How could I never do something so good?” asks the British artist, now 83, in the trailer released Monday.
“Being on my own for the first time, I had to look deep inside myself and started a new band, Wings, to help relaunch his career,” he says.
“Band on the Run,” the title of the first album from the band he formed with his first wife, Linda McCartney, inspired this roughly two-hour documentary, “Man on the Run.”
It was directed by American Morgan Neville, who has directed several feature films, including the recent animated film Piece by Piece about the life of musician and stylist Pharrell Williams.
The film premiered at the Telluride American Film Festival in late August 2025, and Paul McCartney himself is considered an executive producer.
The book, titled Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run, written by McCartney, is due to be released on November 4 on Amazon and in audio format on Audible, a subsidiary of the American giant.
According to this press release, the partnership between the British star, the group Universal Music and Amazon should also result in the release of “exclusive songs” in 2026.
