Ubisoft has reportedly canceled Assassin's Creed game in July 2024, which was supposed to take place during The Reconstruction period following the American Civil War, according to Game file who spoke with five current and former Ubisoft employees.
The main character would be a black man who was formerly a slave in the South and moved west to start a new life. He would return to the South after joining the Assassins to fight the Ku Klux Klan.
“During the Reconstruction era Assassin's Creedgamers will play as a black man who was formerly enslaved in the south and moved west to start a new life,” the report states.
“Recruited by the series' Assassins, he will return to the South to fight for justice in a conflict that, among other things, will force him to confront the rise of the Ku Klux Klan.”
Three sources said the game was canceled for two reasons. This included concerns about the increasingly tense political climate in the US, as well as Yasuke's negative online reaction to Assassin's Creed Shadowshistorically inspired Black Samurai.
