U.S. defender Carter-Vickers to miss up to 5 months with Achilles injury – Winnipeg Free Press

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — United States international Cameron Carter-Vickers will be sidelined for at least several months after the Celtic center back suffered an Achilles injury, coach Brendan Rodgers said Friday.

Rogers estimates Carter-Vickers will miss three to five months, which could limit the defenseman's chances of making the U.S. World Cup team next summer.

Carter-Vickers, 27, felt pain during Celtic's 2-1 Europa League win over Sturm Graz on Thursday night.

Rodgers made two changes in the first half due to injury and made another change in the 78th minute, having exhausted his three substitution options.

“We wanted to take Cameron off but we could only make one change in the second half. Ideally we would have sent him off,” Rodgers said after the match.

Rodgers told Sky Sports on Friday it was an Achilles injury.

Auston Trusty, also a U.S. international, could be called upon to replace Carter-Vickers, who played for the U.S. at the 2022 World Cup.
